Following unanimous approval for the go-ahead for the redevelopment of Hinkler Parade in Thornhill, Southampton, Barratt has announced its name of Prospect Place.

The £15 million new lease of life for the area in conjunction with First Wessex, will consist of 106 new homes, five new shops and a community centre. The homes on offer will be a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and three bedroom houses.

Barratt Southampton managing director, Ian Wallace said: “We are delighted to announce the birth of Prospect Place and start work on constructing the much-needed new homes. We join Southampton City Council in its desire to make the area an attractive place to socialise and an exciting place to live.”

All homes will be ‘Lifetime Homes’ which are normal homes but incorporate certain design criteria. Each feature adds to the comfort and convenience of the home and supports the changing needs to individuals and families throughout their lives. The homes are designed specifically to be flexible and adaptable, so for example there could be an area for a lift to be installed and the ground floor could be adapted to live in, if necessary.

Barratt worked closely with the council and Thornhill Plus You to ensure that the local community were involved in the designs for the redevelopment.

The Hinkler Parade redevelopment is the first project within Southampton City Council’s Estate Regeneration Programme, which is working towards transforming several sites across the city.

Demolition is due to commence on March 1st 2010.
