Buying new makes sense for Hampshire couple

When Andy and Helen Taylor decided to move up from the East Sussex coast to Hampshire to start a new business, they weren’t really considering buying a brand new home.
But after looking around a Taylor Wimpey showhome and comparing their prices with properties on the second-hand market, they were won over by the quality they could afford.
Andy (34) explains: “We went to have a look at Taylor Wimpey’s showhome in Bramley Village just out of interest, with no expectation of buying a new property, but we were very impressed by what great value for money the homes were. In fact, the prices were incomparable with the cost of second-hand houses on the market at the time.
“We had been living in a two-bedroom apartment near Brighton, and we had thought our next step would be a three-bedroom house, but instead we were able to afford a spacious new four-bedroom townhouse at Bramley Green.
“It’s not only big enough for Helen and me to have a room in which to work from home each day, but our six-year-old daughter, Imogen, even has an en-suite to her bedroom – which judging by the little soaps and shower accessories she’s got in there, is probably the dream of every girl her age!”
Just before moving into their new home at the end of last year, Andy and thirty-four-year-old Helen set up the Lovely Cheese Company, a wholesale supplier of cheese and deli produce to restaurants, hotels and caterers in the Basingstoke area – and have turned a top-floor room in their townhouse into their office, while leaving plenty of space for home comforts.
By purchasing their home off-plan and using Taylor Wimpey’s flexible Options range, the couple added an optional conservatory to the ground floor – constructed before they moved in to create an amazing additional dining area.
With a fitted kitchen/breakfast room, en-suites to two of the four bedrooms, plus a family bathroom, their flexible home offers an ideal environment for combining family life and running a business.
“We have been really, really pleased with our move,” adds Andy. “We have had two new houses in the past, and to my mind our new place is head and shoulders above them in terms of quality and design. A brand new Taylor Wimpey home represents outstanding value for money.”
Although the Taylor Wimpey West London development to which Andy and Helen moved has just sold out of new homes, house-hunters can visit stylish showhomes at the leading housebuilder’s current developments in Hampshire – Limes Park, Marnel Park and Everest Park in Basingstoke, and The Romans at Augusta Park in Andover.
