School children go on-site to learn history of Devizes
Crest Nicholson’s canal-side development in Devizes last week played host to over 120 school children from Southbroom Church of England Junior School as part of the school’s project into the history and future of the town.
The pupils, all aged nine to 11 years old, were shown around the development by site manager, Tony Daniels, and were given the opportunity to see how some of the town’s newest homes have been built as well as the tools and skills used to create these top quality homes and how the area has changed from allotments to a local community.
The Crest Nicholson team showed the pupils how the homes at the development are built - from how the foundations are laid to the stud work which is completed inside the houses to build the internal walls. They also saw some of the environmental features which have been incorporated into the development such as the Hydroslide, which is a flood-prevention device which collects excess rainwater, allowing it to be slowly absorbed by the ground, rather than allowing the area to flood.
David Jopling, Head Teacher at Southbroom Junior School added: “At Southbroom we really value opportunities to take learning out of the classroom, so we were really grateful when Crest Nicholson allowed us to visit their development.
“The children had a fantastic experience and were able to link together their learning about Devizes, its past and its future. Many thanks to all the staff at Crest Nicholson who made us feel very welcome.”
Laura Osborne, sales manager for Crest Nicholson’s development at Devizes, explained: “Crest Nicholson prides itself on building communities and this is what we have done at Devizes. We are very pleased to be able to help local school children learn more about their area and to see how it is being transformed.”
Crest Nicholson’s Devizes development is a collection of two, three and four bedroom homes situated on the edge of the Avon and Kennet canal and within easy reach of good schools and the town centre.
