Bugis Street Brasserie launches in Birmingham

On 18 March, Bugis Street Brasserie held a special evening to officially mark the launch of its new restaurant, based at the Copthorne Hotel in Birmingham.

With a superb attendance of over 50 people, guests sampled delicious Singaporean cuisine which included dishes such as Nasi Goreng, Char Kway Teow and Singaporean style Chicken Curry.

Guests were also treated to an exclusive performance of a live dragon dance by the Choy Lee Fut group.

Bugis Street Brasserie first tasted success in Kensington London, with two sister brasseries available at both the Millennium Hotel Gloucester and Copthorne Hotel Tara. Its increasing popularity and reputation for authentic Singaporean cuisine has now resulted in a third restaurant at the Copthorne Hotel Birmingham, where guests can now experience traditional food from this exotic South-East Asian city.

Situated in the heart of Birmingham overlooking Centenary Square, the hotel is superbly located close to the business area, places of interest, entertainment and shopping areas. Bugis Street Brasserie serves traditional Singaporean cuisine, which also combines Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian and Indian food. The restaurant provides delectable signature dishes such as Hainanese chicken rice, Laksa, and Nasi Goreng, and offers exquisite lunch and dinner options in informal surroundings, with an express lunch menu from £5.95 for diners pressed for time.

Bugis Street, named after the legendary seafaring merchants from the Island of Sulawesi, was once one of the most notorious areas of Singapore. Recently it has been transformed and now boasts a bustling street life with boutiques, market stalls and open-air bars and restaurants.

Head Chef Chee Kean Chan hails from South-East Asia and brings over 10 years of extensive experience in Singaporean and Malay cuisine. He was specifically appointed to set up and launch the restaurant in Birmingham, having previously worked at the Bugis Street Brasserie in London Kensington.

Ben Thomas, General Manager at the Copthorne Hotel Birmingham, commented: “We’re thrilled with the success and the response from the community since opening Bugis Street Brasserie. Every day we are seeing more and more people enjoy dining at the restaurant which captures the essence of authentic Singaporean cuisine.”
