Pupils at Castle Hill Junior School in Basingstoke have learned a valuable lesson about playing safe – thanks to a special visit from Taylor Wimpey West London.

Around 250 children, aged seven to 11, were taught about the hazards of playing on or around building sites by Mike Couderc, Site Manager at Taylor Wimpey’s nearby Limes Park development.

The children were shown a video highlighting the many different ways they could be hurt if they were tempted to stray on to the site – by falling scaffolding, bricks or pipes, by sharp metal or glass hidden in sand, or by moving vehicles.

And the serious message was rounded off with the school receiving a gift of high-visibility vests to improve youngsters’ safety while out on school excursions.

Speaking after the assembly, Mike said he was delighted to be able to spread such an important safety message to the children.

“Children are naturally curious about the things going on around them and building sites probably look like fun places to play, but I think Castle Hill pupils now understand just how dangerous they can be without the right safety equipment and training,” he said.

“With summer on the way, and work on the new homes at Limes Park at full pace to keep up with increasing homebuyer demand, we felt it was a very good time for us to share a lesson with local children about playing safely.”

A range of two and three-bedroom homes is being constructed at Limes Park, located at 1 Peggs Way, Park Village, Basingstoke. The development’s showhome and Information Centre are open daily from 10am to 5.30pm.
