Iveco announces supply deal with MotoGP World Championship
Iveco has strengthened its association with the MotoGP World Championship after being named official commercial vehicle supplier. Under the two-year agreement with Dorna Sports, which runs MotoGP on behalf of the International Motorcycling Federation, Iveco will supply 15 Stralis tractor units and four EcoDaily vans to support the worldwide motorsport spectacle.
This major vehicle supply deal follows just two months after Iveco was named ‘Official Sponsor’ of the Fiat Yamaha MotoGP Team, which enjoys a star rider line-up consisting of nine times World Champion Valentino Rossi and his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.
The Iveco fleet will be used to transport materials, equipment and personnel throughout the racing calendar, which kicked off in Qatar on 11 April and will visit 14 countries. As well as ensuring a high-profile position for Iveco across the next two years, it will also see Iveco feature as title sponsor of the race at Australia’s Phillip Island circuit. The event is being billed as the ‘Iveco Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2010’.
Iveco's involvement with MotoGP is part of its broader communications strategy and marks the further development of a sports-based sponsorship initiative which has increasingly linked Iveco to some of the most famous sporting teams in the world, including New Zealand’s All Blacks and the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team.
MotoGP has progressively increased in popularity on an international scale since televised races were broadcast. The 2009 season was aired in 207 countries spanning five continents, with an average audience of 28 million people for each event.
