Eddie Stobart truck crosses new Workington Road Bridge
The first vehicle to cross the temporary new Workington road-bridge in Cumbria today was that of international logistics firm, Eddie Stobart. The company, now part of the FTSE-250 listed Stobart Group, won a charity auction in aid of the Workington Rotary Club (which has worked tirelessly in recent months to support the flood victims) to be the first to cross the newly opened bridge – loaded with goods for delivery to the local Tesco store.
William Stobart, Stobart Group Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are proud to have played a small part in this fantastic project – life on the road in West Cumbria should get a lot easier from now on, which comes as a relief to us all. This new bridge will save a round-trip of 36 miles when travelling from the North to the South side of Workington. The local council and its various partners should also be very proud at the speed and efficiency with which they have erected the bridge.”
