Copenhagen’s Little Mermaid is off to Shanghai

Copenhagen's beloved Little Mermaid has taken a vacation from her post in the harbour and travelled to World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
She left Copenhagen end of March and will be gone until December, but quite a few interesting things will take place in the city while she's away. In exchange for the Little Mermaid, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has been commissioned to create a multimedia art installation around her usual perch at Langelinie. It will include a 24-hour video link to the Little Mermaid in Shanghai so people can keep tabs on her.
At the same time, the Little Mermaid's "sister" - a copy of the statue made by its sculptor, Edvard Eriksen - will be on display at Tivoli Gardens.
The world's oldest amusement park has just reopened for the season, which lasts until 26 September.
And speaking of Tivoli, this year Petzi (Rasmus Klump in Danish) and his best friends Pelle, Pingo, Old Salt and the ship Mary are moving into Tivoli Gardens too. In May 2010, the world-renowned Danish cartoon character gets its very own universe at Tivoli called “Petzi's World”.
Here children of all ages can enjoy more than 40 different activities, giant cartoon decorations and sensory experiences based on the popular Petzi stories. Entry is free for visitors to Tivoli.
