Research reveals increase in UK activity holidays

28th April 2010 Print

With the warmer summer months on the horizon, Post Office Travel Insurance is advising those looking to indulge in some adventure or activity on their holidays in the UK to make sure they have adequate travel insurance beforehand.

The advice from Post Office Travel Insurance comes after research from Mintel revealed that the domestic activity holiday market has grown by an estimated 11 per cent. According to the research, nearly two million people embarked on domestic water sports adventure holidays in 2009, while nearly a million holidaymakers enjoyed rock-climbing or cycling.

Given the added risk of partaking in adventure activities on holiday, Post Office Travel Insurance is reminding UK holidaymakers of the need for adequate travel insurance and to be aware that many adventure sports such as waterskiing and windsurfing may not be included in a standard travel insurance policy.

For those holidaying in the UK Post Office travel insurance policy will provide personal liability cover, and it also protects sporting equipment while not in use, up to a value of £300. Travel insurance can also offer cover in case of delays and cancellation of flights or trains and stolen or lost valuables.

Post Office Travel Insurance advises that holidaymakers check that their chosen activity is covered by their travel insurance policy, whether for an activity holiday at home or abroad. The Post Office’s standard annual travel insurance policy covers a number of adventure sports, including yachting, surfing and waterskiing.
