Cycling is the new golf, say Rensburg Sheppards
Road cycling is challenging golf as the preferred sport for business networking according to leading wealth manager Rensburg Sheppards who have launched their first Cycle Club in Sheffield.
The club has been established by Rensburg Sheppards director James Lanchbery, a keen cyclist himself, who recognised the demand in Sheffield for a networking club dedicated to professional people who want to get fit and healthy - whilst doing business at the same time - and who don't want to venture out on the golf course.
World-renowned, Sheffield born cyclist Malcolm Elliott - winner of two Commonwealth gold medals - joined the inaugural meeting of the Rensburg Sheppards Cycle Club on May 5, 2010. A group of more than 40 local business people took part in a 38 mile return ride from the Rensburg Sheppards office to Edale in the Peak District National Park - a less arduous 28 mile ride was also available.
Regular meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of every month.
James Lanchbery says: "You can chat really easily on the bike and there is no doubt that cycling is growing in popularity amongst professionals all over the world who are experiencing the benefits of cycling in making business contacts.
"It was really exciting to be joined by Malcolm Elliott for the first outing. He is a local racing superstar and will be competing in the Tour of Britain this year; he was a real inspiration to our members. However, you don't need to be a professional cyclist to join us as the networking is the most important aspect."
Rensburg Sheppards employs 600 staff in 11 regional offices around the UK. The company offers bespoke portfolio management and financial planning which is aimed at private individuals, trusts, charities and pension fund clients.
