Steve collects Yamaha’s ultimate prize

Silverstone’s MotoGP event is one that Steve Randall from Poole, Dorset, will never forget. It was the place where he picked up his brand new, Altamura painted, Akrapovic equipped, Yamaha YZF-R1.

Steve won the grand prize, which included a set of custom Yamaha Dainese leathers, an AGV Rossi replica helmet and a Fiat Yamaha ‘all access’ pass to the British round of MotoGP. All because he test-rode a Yamaha (and it was an R1) in their Demonstrate, Evaluate, Celebrate test ride promotion which was held over the last 3 months.

To be in the draw, customers had to test ride a bike from a huge selection of Yamaha motorcycles and scooters, complete an evaluation form (for which all received a celebration T-shirt and a race compilation DVD) and be first out of the hat! Simple!

Steve, an architect originally from Essex but now living in Poole Dorset, took his demo ride at one of Yamaha’s newest Premier dealers, Crescent Yamaha in Bournemouth. He said ‘It is a bit clichéd, but I really thought it was a wind-up when I got the mail to say I had won the big prize. I have a number of bikes in the garage but tested the R1 and loved it. Little did I know that I would win one! I am still reeling from the weekend at Silverstone. It was like a day dream.’

Just after commentator and ex-racer Steve Parrish put down his microphone for the BBC, he was on hand to present Steve with his bike on the Yamaha stand. Also present were Crescent Yamaha’s Branch Manager Frank Hayden, Yamaha’s National Sales Manager Adam Kelley and most importantly Hannah Gregory, Steve’s Fiancée (only 6 weeks to go to the big day).

The design of the bike was commissioned by Yamaha Motor UK to celebrate the brand’s 3 World Championship wins last year – MotoGP, World Superbike and World Supersport. The design was recreated on the bike by custom paint firm Altamura Concepts of Camberley (all the graphics are hand painted). Dainese and AGV also contributed by putting up a custom Yamaha Championship suit and a Rossi replica AGV helmet. Steve really will look the part!
