Tesco Mobile push gives high street retailers a run for their money
Tesco has announced that it is to start selling upgrades for all the major mobile networks within a matter of weeks. It is also pushing a new range of 12 month contracts.
Ernest Doku, communications expert at uSwitch.com, comments: "Tesco has an aggressive strategy for penetrating the mobile market and this brings them another step closer to becoming a serious player. Their best success will be amongst the customers that have already deserted the high street, now relying on their supermarket for everything from clothes to computers. Mobile phones are a natural extension - Tesco are really going out of their way to court the casual consumer.
"It's the nature of treating phones like any other commodity that Tesco trades in - low prices and utmost convenience. Going into your supermarket and getting a new mobile contract as well as a prepay phone becomes a very real prospect with this move. It's essential though for people to do their homework before entering into a mobile contract. With so many deals available on the market it's important to find the best one to meet their needs."
