Youngsters are given VIP treatment during educational visit to the site of a proposed Taylor Wimpey development of new homes in Fleet.

Primary school pupils were given a unique insight into the history – and the future – of their community during a special guided tour of a proposed Taylor Wimpey development site of new homes in Church Crookham, Hampshire.

Youngsters from Church Crookham Junior School enjoyed an educational visit to the former Queen Elizabeth Barracks, where the leading housebuilder is proposing to create a brand new development of property for sale in Fleet and community facilities to fulfil the need for housing in the area.

During the tour, the eight and nine-year-olds were shown around the old parade ground, officers’ mess and cinema building at the barracks site, as well as its memorial orchard, where a tree has been planted for every Gurkha soldier who died while serving at Church Crookham.

The aim of the visit was to explain to the pupils how their community has developed over the years, and to show them how it will change if Taylor Wimpey’s planning application to develop flats and houses in Fleet on the redundant site is approved.

It was organised by DPP, planning consultant for the proposed Taylor Wimpey West London development, and DPP Associate Partner Nicky Parsons acted as tour guide for the day.

“The visit was a fantastic success and the youngsters were very keen to find out more about the history of their community, as well as how it could take shape in the future,” Nicky says.

“Taylor Wimpey is always keen to develop good relationships with the local community and we were delighted to be able to offer our assistance to Church Crookham Junior School by hosting this educational tour.”

The school visit was part of Taylor Wimpey’s ongoing commitment to community involvement in its plans to develop 872 new homes on the Queen Elizabeth Barracks site, along with a new primary school, community facilities, shops, sports pitches plus public open space and recreation areas.

The housebuilder earlier conducted two public exhibitions giving local people the chance to find out more about the proposed development and provide feedback ahead of a formal planning application being submitted to Hart District Council later this year.

Taylor Wimpey is in ongoing discussions with the community to ensure that the final scheme addresses as many local issues as possible.
