Round off the summer at Solfest

The Solway Coast’s Solfest music festival, at Silloth on the Solway Coast in Cumbria, will be giving music lovers lots of reason to stand and cheer this year, as it lays on an event, from August 27-29, headlined by legendary Manchester rock band, James, perhaps best-known for their hit “Sit Down”.

Supported by The Magic Numbers and Alabama on the main stage, James will be belting out some of the songs that have given them such a loyal fan-base, as well as acquiring new fans amongst the younger generation.

The Drystone Stage will feature acts that include the Peatbog Faeries and a dance tent and bar stage will allow some lesser-known musicians to make their mark.

With kids’ activities, a market and workshops, a visit to Solfest is the perfect way to round off the summer and there’s the opportunity to make a real weekend of it thanks to campsite facilities.

Those happy to arrive on Thursday August 26, in advance of the festival, can pay just £10 per vehicle to camp. Facilities are basic, but clean, with an option for those wanting more luxurious accommodation. Yurts and Squrts are both available for hire, the Yurts being four-person nomadic-style camping facilities and Squrts housing two people.

An unfurnished 12ft Yurt can be hired for £429, whilst a cosy furnished Yurt with rugs, sheepskins, cushions and tea-light lantern costs £585. Both house four people.

An unfurnished 9ft Squrt costs £235, whilst a furnished two-person Squrt costs £319.

Adult weekend tickets for the three-day event cost £89, with children’s tickets priced at £25 for 6-11 year olds, £62 for 12-16 year olds and free-of-charge for under 5s, although they do need a ticket. Tickets can be bought at the Carnegie Theatre, Workington, or the Cumberland Building Society’s English Street branch in Carlisle and branches in Aspatria, Silloth and Wigton.

Solfest Ale, especially brewed for the festival, and an exclusive Wise Apple Cider, will be treats for adults to enjoy and use to wash down tasty meaty, veggie and vegan food available at the festival.

Solfest is held at Tarnside Farm, Tarns, near Silloth, CA7 4NQ.
