PayPal launches Mobile Express Checkout

3rd August 2010 Print

PayPal has unveiled a new Mobile Express Checkout service for retailers, which gives their customers the same fast and safe experience on their mobile phones as PayPal Express Checkout.  The service is currently being rolled out on the iPhone and Android 2.0 (and higher) devices for select merchants over the next few weeks before being fully rolled out later this summer.

This new service comes at a time when consumers are increasingly shopping on their mobile phones.  According to Juniper Research, mobile payments are due to reach $200 billion by 2012. The rapid growth in the area, along with feedback from PayPal merchants inspired the development of the new service, which aims to revolutionise the way in which businesses interact with their customers.

Petra Jung, head of mobile for PayPal in the UK, said: "With more than 172 million smartphone users around the world, the opportunity for mobile is hard to ignore. Mobile Express Checkout offers a one-stop payment service which allows retailers to sell to millions of mobile shoppers on the go. On top of the convenience for both merchants and customers, the service offers very strong fraud protection giving customers peace of mind that their payments will be made safely in just a few clicks."

Mobile Express Checkout will be available to all PayPal merchants later this summer. Its features will include:

One-stop payment service that allows merchants to sell to millions of mobile shoppers

Quick deployment and integration to get merchants in the mobile game fast

A seamless customer experience which is especially important with smaller screens and keyboards - no cumbersome data entry, just a few clicks and customers are done

Strong fraud detection
