Transplant couple find perfect match in Basingstoke

Not many couples can claim to be as perfectly matched as Wayne Tubb and Karen McArthur. Because as well as putting an engagement ring on her finger, 36-year-old Wayne has given his beloved fiancée the ultimate gift – donating one of his kidneys to her in a life-saving transplant operation.
Now the happy couple are looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together in one of Taylor Wimpey’s brand new Everest Park homes in Basingstoke.
Karen (40) suffers from spina bifida and after deciding to upsize from their previous three-bedroom property in Wokingham, she and Wayne were keen to find a stylish and spacious contemporary home in Basingstoke that was equipped to cope with her needs.
They found exactly what they were looking for with the four-bedroom ‘Ingleborough’ semi-detached house at Everest Park.
“Karen is my number one priority and I’ll do anything for her – that’s why I didn’t think twice about becoming a live donor to help her when she suffered kidney failure two years ago,” says Wayne, a self-employed carpenter.
“Thankfully, I was a perfect match and the transplant went ahead without a problem. It’s not changed my life at all and Karen is in the best of health.
“After the operation, we began thinking about our future and finding somewhere new to settle down. As soon as we found the ‘Ingleborough’ house for sale in Basingstoke we knew it was ideal. The layout and design are absolutely perfect for Karen.
“In our property in Wokingham, I’ve had to make a lot of changes to make it suitable for her needs so I’m used to having to strip everything down to the bare plaster and starting from scratch.
“With our new Taylor Wimpey property in Basingstoke we haven’t had to worry about anything because everything is already in place for us – all we need to think about is putting our own stamp on our new home by decorating it!”
One of the main attractions of the Everest Park home for Karen and Wayne is the contemporary open-plan layout of its ground floor, featuring a large lounge/dining room and conservatory each opening through French doors to the rear garden, with a separate kitchen and guest cloakroom located off the entrance hallway.
Wide doorways provide plenty of room for Karen to walk through with mobility aids, while four good-sized bedrooms and two bathrooms are laid out across the two upper floors – offering a wealth of space for the couple, their 10-year-old son George and Karen’s university student daughter Kelly (20).
To make choosing their new home at Everest Park ven more straightforward and hassle-free, Wayne and Karen took advantage of Taylor Wimpey’s easymover scheme, through which the housebuilder finds a buyer for customers’ existing properties in just a few weeks and covers the cost of estate agents’ fees and removals.
“We couldn’t be happier with our new house in Baskingstoke and we’re looking forward to moving in later in the year,” Wayne adds.
“Taylor Wimpey has bent over backwards to help us and we can’t thank staff enough for everything they’ve done for us – particularly the sales Executives Kim and Marylyn, who have been fantastic.”
