Toshiba VL748 series for style and quality conscious viewers
Toshiba introduce its new VL748 series of slim LED LCD TVs at IFA in Berlin. Designed by the Toshiba design team in collaboration with JACOB JENSEN DESIGN, a leading European design studio renowned in the high-end electronics business, the VL748 series stands out with a modern, elegant frameless look with subtle details such as the touch controls integrated into its glass front. The new 102cm (40”) and 117cm (46”) Full HD TVs don't compromise on picture quality either; they feature high-contrast Edge LED backlight panels, upscaling technology Resolution+, and highly sophisticated picture setting modes. These, combined with other features, ensure a crisp and brilliant picture quality regardless of ambient light levels or the characteristics of displayed content.
A perfect harmony in form and function

"Together, we have created a new approach in TV design resulting in a perfect harmony of function, design, usability and picture quality", The 2.89 cm super slim design of the VL748 series TVs is characterised by clean lines, high-quality materials such as glass and metal and a large frameless front. Instead of using buttons the new TVs are controlled via a touch panel subtly integrated into its frameless front.
Hollywood directors’ pleasure
To ensure that viewers experience their movies exactly as the Hollywood directors intended, Toshiba has developed a panel with the same imaging characteristics as the studio monitors that are used in movie post production. Plus, the VL748 series devices feature a ‘Hollywood Mode’ setting with two picture presets - one for daylight and one designed for reduced ambient light at night time. These help to optimise colour temperature, colour decoding, gamma correction, and signal processing to ensure a clean and pure transmission of the signal, which lives up to film production standards.
The Expert Settings allow AV professionals or technically advanced users to even adjust all settings manually to ensure the best picture quality to suit their needs. They can change nearly the whole set-up, including parameters such as colour temperature or primary & secondary colour balance. The features also include a 10-point grey scale correction, a colour decoding switch, an integrated TV test pattern and many more useful expert features.
Picture and motion enhancements ensure accuracy in every detail
Powered by Toshiba’s MetaBrain chip, the VL748 series feature the upscaling application Resolution+, that uses complex algorithms to enhance the picture quality of standard definition content, bringing it close to the level of HD quality. Along with the brilliant Edge LED backlight panel, that offers a dynamic contrast of 7,000,000:1 and the 100-Hz-motion enhancement technology Active Vision M100HD Pro, the VL748 series ensures clear and bright pictures without any motion blur.
Also pleasing to the ears…
Although the TVs are only 2.89 cm thick, they feature an integrated sub-woofer with a 10 Watt output that provides a natural and vibrant sound. The integrated Audyssey EQ equalizing system reduces acoustic irritations caused by dominant or under-represented frequencies and delivers a vibrant and well-balanced sound.
Connected to the world
Two USB ports that support a wide selection of formats including DivX HD, MKV, JPEG and MP3 and several HDMI ports to receive uncompressed data streams from various sources complement the comprehensive choice of interfaces to connect to a home network and Windows compatible TVs. They are wireless ready (802.11a/b/g/n), allowing access to a wireless home network via an optional WLAN USB dongle, available separately. It supports an easy setup of a WLAN access.
Models and availability
The TVs of the VL748 series are available with two different screen sizes: The 40VL748 comes with a 102cm (40'') display, while the 46VL748 offers a screen with 117cm (46”). Both TVs work with frame rates of 100 Hz and will be available in autumn 2010 throughout Europe.
