Eco2 Transport comes to London

24th September 2010 Print

Today's two critical business challenges - maximise cost efficiency and minimise carbon footprint. Eco2 Transport, taking place at Earl's Court exhibition centre, London, November 16th – 18th, has been launched to help the public sector, SMEs and blue-chip companies act now to tackle both.

This event is the most significant to take place in the transport and travel arena to date, globally. Transport is responsible for 25% of emissions, and a part of every organisation – from commuting workers to operating vehicle fleets and distributing goods. Eco2 Transport is a must-happen, must-attend event, positioning London as a future city and the UK as a pioneer in sustainable transport solutions and an accelerated low carbon adoption programme.

Eco2 Transport will inform, inspire and provide the most innovative technology and service solutions to enable organisations to take immediate action.

Already operating within the currently challenging economic climate and against the backdrop of soon to be announced drastic public sector cuts, mirrored in tightened budgets within the private sector, today's fleet manager, transport procurement officer and CSR/sustainability/financial operatives are also faced with the challenge of ever more rigorous emissions targets, which are only going to become more demanding in order to meet long-term climate change commitments.

Eco2 Transport will highlight and help promote action to tackle these environmental and financial challenges, because it has become clear that the need for increased sustainability is not a business fad that will simply fade away – it is at the root of any business organisation's long-term commercial viability.

The comprehensive line-up of conference speakers at Eco2 Transport includes the largest number (over 100) of key experts and thought leaders within this area ever gathered under one roof.  Sharing best practice and highlighting technology and service innovations will be:

Professor Brian Collins, Chief Scientific Adviser, DfT, on Intelligent Transport Systems
Ian Allen, GM/Vauxhall on Overcoming Range Anxiety in Electric Vehicles
Chris Hall, Transport Manager, Asda, on Sustainability in the Distribution Network
Alexis Keech, Yorkshire NHS Ambulance Trust, on a Pioneering Sustainable Transport Policy in the Public Sector
Dr Graham Cooley, Chief Executive, ITM Power, on Hydrogen, Building a Clean Fuel Infrastructure
Andrew Millard, Citrix, on Webconferencing to Eliminate Carbon & Cost
Paul, Lord Drayson, Drayson Racing, on Pioneering Biofuel Development

The exhibition will present over 100 leading solutions providers, with exciting launches taking place at the show, including the £1,700 petrol/CNG hybrid city car and the cargo solution that could taking 1 in 4 lorries off the road. Areas covered include: electric vehicles, 2 and 4 wheel; vehicle tracking; green taxi services; driver training; lubricant technology; cycle to work schemes; web/videoconferencing; travel management; smarter working travel; encouraging culture shift and installing an EV infrastructure.

The level of support from key stakeholders has been overwhelming, with over 20 organisations actively involved, including:

trade bodies such as ACFO, BVRLA and ICFM, who between them have 98% of fleet operators as members

sustainable, low carbon pioneers such as LowCVP and CENEX

NGOs and not-for-profit organisations such as CarPlus, National Business Travel Network and WorkWiseUK

Event Director Charles Troy explains “Eco2 Transport is not an academic talking shop. It's all about engaging with the business user, highlighting the fact that due to only very recent developments, carbon cutting and cost efficiency now frequently go hand in hand, and giving them the tools to act now”.

“We're bringing together for the first time on a significant scale the key stakeholders and solutions providers who have answers on how to increase sustainability in the transport of goods and mobility of people, and connecting them with the business end-user.

It is important that Eco2 Transport is free to attend, because it is absolutely a must-attend event – increased sustainability is no longer a business choice, it's a necessity, and in the current economic climate, the related cost efficiencies cannot be ignored”.

Finally, one notable innovation at Eco2 Transport is that it will plug show visitors straight into tomorrow's technology, with test drives of hydrogen and electric vehicles in the conditions they currently best serve – short-run city driving.
