DIY packages for skiers and boarders

21st October 2010 Print

A brand new online service enabling skiers and boarders to package their own `DIY’ ski holiday has been launched by SkiExtras (skiextras.com), providing the widest choice of ski equipment hire, products and services available in one place for the first time, from one source.

The Ski Extras ski service offers ski equipment, tuition, lift passes, accommodation and ancillary ski services from over 850 service providers in over 370 resorts, in ten countries in Europe, North America and Australasia. And unlike many ski service providers, all bookings made through Ski Extras are 100% protected by TTA bonding.

Skiextras.com is the brainchild of ski industry expert, Mark Warnes, whose expertise ranges from heading up ski holiday product for major UK ski tour operators that include Crystal Holidays, Thomson Ski and Ski World, to his most recent experience running a chain of ski shops in the French Alps and online.

Mark Warnes said “I could see the gap in the market for an economic source for supplying the independent skier and boarder with ski equipment, tuition and lift passes, with options to pre-book all the ancillary services he or she needs for a ski holiday, such as airport parking and insurance.

Many skiers simply accept the ski packs offered by the tour operator they book their flights and accommodation through, but if they de-package what they’ve bought, they will find they are paying over the odds, not always for the best service or products, and are given no choice of which brands or companies to hire from.

The alternative is to pre-book from one specific resort ski hire shop, or to wait until arrival in resort and then lose valuable skiing time shopping around or queuing up.

By using the new Ski Extras service skiers can compare prices and quality from different suppliers and put together the individual elements of their ski holiday, from just one lift pass, or a day’s ski hire, to a full ski holiday package. All they need to do is add in flights”.

The Ski Extras website also includes five day snow and weather forecasts for all top European and North American resorts, and over 150 resort reviews, with opportunities for clients to contribute their own resort reviews.

For ski tuition Ski Extras has partnered with some of the best ski and snowboard schools in Europe, all with fully qualified, English speaking instructors.

Mark Warnes continued “We wanted to simplify the process of finding the right ski school and ski lessons. Using our online booking service, skiers and boarders simply select their chosen resort, their ski or board ability and it’s as simple as that. No leaving it until the last minute and finding the courses are fully booked, or booking inflated ski tuition through mainstream operators via a call centre with operatives who have little or no knowledge about ski schools.

Our combined expertise in the ski industry has enabled us to pool our knowledge of resorts, ski equipment and ski suppliers and bring together one comprehensive source”.
