With winter looming now's the time to buy new

As the winter nights start drawing in, temperatures drop and central heating in homes across Portsmouth is turned on or up, Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties believes now is the time to consider buying new.

Running a new home tends to be much more cost efficient and friendlier to the environment than its older counterparts – not only do most come with double glazing as standard, they’re also well insulated and many benefit from low energy light bulbs and dual flush toilets.

Sarah Pasco, regional sales director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: “A home is probably the most expensive investment you’ll ever make, and it’s important to make the right decision. With gas and electricity costs increasing and the winter months becoming more severe, many home owners find themselves getting hit with an energy bill in the Spring that’s far higher than they’d expected.

“Choosing a new build can help homeowners make savings in areas such as fuel bills, as well as helping to avoid the cost of ongoing structural maintenance that older homes tend to need. Add to this the different financial incentives and assistance packages we can offer at the time of purchase, and the savings and benefits really do start to add up.”

A study* undertaken by Taylor Wimpey using Energy Performance Certificates also supports this. It revealed that those living in a new home could use 55% less energy, save 65% on heating, lighting and hot water bills and generate 72% less CO2 emissions than those living in a second hand property. One of the most striking differences came in the cost of heating a new Taylor Wimpey home which totalled just £241, compared to £947 in a traditional Victorian house built in 1899.

Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties is currently building a selection of homes across the region including Alver Village in Gosport, Scholars Walk in Portsmouth, Wildberry Way in Whiteley and Dukes Meadow in Waterlooville. Prices currently start from just £109,995.
