Paralympian enjoys life at Farnborough Central

A star of wheelchair rugby is enjoying all the benefits of a brand new apartment at Redrow’s Farnborough Central development in Hampshire.
Full time athlete Ross Morrison, a two-time paralympian and member of the Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Team, recently moved to a ground floor apartment on an historical site, which is being transformed by Redrow into a new homes development.
The 31-year-old has moved to Farnborough with his partner Eileen McCarthy, 33, from Fareham, due to its easy commute to London, where Ross trains most days with his club team, the London Wheelchair Rugby Club.
He said: “We looked at some older developments, but they all required some form of modification or renovation whereas new developments are built to DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) standards so we knew we wouldn’t have to make any alterations.
“We really liked Farnborough Central and they had a ground floor apartment available that was just perfect for us. It’s light, spacious and very well kitted out.”
Ross was part of the GB wheelchair rugby teams at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, where the team narrowly missed out on the medal places, and now has his sights set on making the squad for London 2012.
Wheelchair rugby has been growing in popularity since it was introduced as a paralympic sport in 2000. It is played indoors on a basket ball court using a regular volley ball. There are four players from each team on court at any one time. Like rugby, it’s a full contact sport and the aim is to push through the goal at the opposition’s end of the court, carrying the ball.
He added: “I train in London and it’s a very easy commute to and from the city from Farnborough Central as it’s so close to the train station. The train journey to Waterloo station takes less than 45 minutes.”
With a number of stylish apartments still available Redrow is making it easy for homebuyers like Ross and Eileen to start a new life at Farnborough Central.
It’s a contemporary development of new one and two-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom townhouses, alongside completed conversions of historic buildings, on part of the former site of the Royal Aircraft Establishment.
The government-backed help scheme HomeBuy is available on selected homes, which provides purchasers with an equity loan for up to 30% of the purchase price, jointly funded by Redrow and the Homes and Communities Agency.
