You're never too old to swim

While it may have been a while since you donned some bathers and practiced your front crawl, a recent awards ceremony shows you are never too old to head down to your local swimming pool.

The Kellogg’s ASA Swimtastic Awards celebrate some of the country’s most outstanding non-elite achievements in the pool, and this year some very enthusiastic older swimmers have been recognised.

Aimed at amateur swimmers, the awards recognise people of all ages and abilities as well as those responsible for providing swimming lessons.

And if you thought you were getting too old for swimming then think again. Among those honoured this year is a 76 year old who swims 3 kilometres a week.

Swimming is an excellent form of exercise and can help improve flexibility and balance. It is also known to reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

And aside from the physical benefits, it offers the opportunity to meet new people and to do something fun with the grandchildren. Leisure facilities cater for people of all ages and experience and can help you re-build any lost confidence in a safe and friendly environment.

So what are you waiting for? Watch the following video for some inspiration and you never know, next year you may be winning an award and rubbing shoulders with some Olympic hopefuls.
