British backpacker, Tom Furnivall was keen to help with the clean up in Brisbane following the devastating floods last week.

Tom, who has been staying at the Brisbane YHA said "It's the least we can do considering we travelers have an easy life style, and there are people that have had their whole lives washed away." Tom, who is from Scotland was put to work at the University of Queensland to help remove water damaged furniture.

The manager of Brisbane YHA, Tim Hardidge added "Now the floods have subsided and Brisbane is starting to return to a lively, vibrant city, it is great to see our guests helping by donating their time. Luckily our hostel, which was only opened just over a year ago, has escaped any damage but not everyone was so lucky".

Mandy Monk, Head of European Marketing stressed " the majority of flooding that affected some parts of Queensland and Northern New South Wales has passed, particularly in the areas that most travellers visit and all major transport links are running again. All our hostels have now reopened and are once again welcoming guests. The traditional East Coast backpacker route between Sydney and Cairns is back open for business and the best way backpackers and holiday makers can help is by continuing their trip".
