Three classic cities by high-speed rail

21st January 2011 Print

Treyn – the rail holidays specialist – has creatively packaged three classic cities into a 10-day escorted tour that takes full advantage of Europe’s high-speed rail network to discover Vienna, Prague and Berlin for less than £1,000.

Departing from St Pancras International by Eurostar, travellers board a CityNightLine sleeper train in Cologne and are whisked overnight through Germany to arrive in Vienna on the morning of day two.

The city’s baroque architecture and historic sites are highlighted in a city tour, and there’s an optional excursion on day three to spectacular Schönbrunn Palace.

On day four, Austrian Railways take the group north to Prague for a stay of three nights.  Here, as well as a city tour, there’s an opportunity to see 13th century Konopište Chateau and visit a traditional Czech brewery.

On day seven, a scenic rail journey – through the valley of the Elbe and craggy ‘Saxon Switzerland’ – heads to Berlin for a three-night stay. The Germany capital offers a huge choice of sightseeing opportunities, from the sparkling Reichstag to the symbolic Brandenburg Gate.  There’s also an optional excursion to Potsdam and the Sanssouci Palace.

The high-speed return journey, by ICE to Cologne and on to Brussels to board a Eurostar service, delivers travellers back to London in a single day.

With weekly departures from mid-April to early October, this great value 10-day holiday costs between £978 and £998 per person, twin share, including all rail travel (with one overnight journey), eight nights in hotels, breakfast each day, three additional meals, guided tours of each city and the services of a Tour Manager throughout.
