Redrow homes in Wiltshire offer best of old and new

Redrow's exclusive New Heritage Collection is coming to Calne, bringing instantly recognisable traditional homes which combine the best of old and new.
Now being built at over 40 locations across the UK, The New Heritage Collection is a premium housing product with more than a hint of nostalgia, influenced by the ‘Arts and Crafts’ era, but boasting a specification to meet the needs of modern lifestyles.
Three, four and five-bedroom family homes, plus some two-bedroom apartments, will go on sale at Steeple Chase in March. Show homes will follow to showcase the high specification interiors.
Located 15 miles from Swindon and 20 miles from Bath, off Sandpit Road, on the edge of Calne, the development will eventually feature 132 homes on a former green field site.
Just as the Arts and Crafts era (c1850 – 1915) grew from the desire to bring back the skill and creativity of the individual craftsman and revive the simplicity and honesty in the way buildings and furnishings were made, Redrow has deliberately set out to reintroduce a high degree of individuality to the way its homes in the collection look and feel.
Hannah Newnes, sales manager for Redrow Homes (South West), explains: “Feedback from the majority of our customers tells us that they want a conventional two-storey home, preferably detached, with an easily accessible garage and a garden of their own. They want something that looks traditional, perhaps evocative of the family home they grew up in, but they want it to have the latest statement-making kitchens, bathrooms and good quality fixtures and fittings.
“In designing this, some of the architectural influences, styles, shapes, colours and textures reflected in the Arts and Crafts movement have been brought right up to date with high-specification interiors styled for modern living.”
Some of the external features which typify the Arts and Crafts era - and will be seen in varying degrees on the Calne homes - include dropped eaves, bay windows, timber or tiled canopies over doors and windows and the use of larch lap boarding, while front door styles and colours also reflect the ‘heritage’ feel.
Already popular at developments in Devizes and Bristol, these traditional exteriors hide a contemporary interior specification, featuring convivial open plan living spaces, fashionable kitchen designs with floor to ceiling units and top brand name appliances, plus bathrooms that are sleek, modern and pleasing to the eye.
“This combination of traditional exterior and modern interior adds up to a home that can readily compete with the second hand sector for external character and wins hands down when it comes to stylish interiors, practical layouts, being energy efficiency and easy to maintain,” Hannah said.
Steeple Chase is well placed for local amenities in Calne itself; while the nearby town of Chippenham is just six miles away and there are great commuter links to Swindon and Bath.
