HTC set to shake up the smartphone market - again
Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch.com, comments on today's HTC announcements: "HTC's range of new handsets is perfectly pitched at all price points - which is exactly why they ruled the smartphone market in 2010.
Flyer
"The HTC Flyer shows why there is a future in tablet devices. The 7-inch screen keeps the Flyer on the right side of portable, as well as probably keeping the price more affordable, but it's a lot smaller then the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and LG's recently launched Optimus Pad.
"The novelties come in their custom Sense UI, with additional flourishes for the tablet experience, as well as the addition of a stylus to draw and make notes on the display. To have OnLive inbuilt in the Flyer also takes portable gaming to another level, as the streaming service can bring top-end titles and a console-quality experience to the device.
"It's this innovation and difference in terms of both design and function that have seen huge success for HTC, with this new range sharing those same sentiments. If they can keep the HTC Flyer affordable, it could shake up the tablet market as drastically as the Desire did for smartphones just a year ago.
S range - Desire, Incredible and Wildfire
"The new Desire S and Incredible S lead the charge with some impressive high-end specs, whilst the Wildfire S sits just beneath as a more affordable alternative for aspirational users. We can expect to see the Wildfire S repeat the original's success in the £20 per month and prepay sector once again.
ChaCha and Salsa
"ChaCha and Salsa are two affordable fun handsets aimed squarely at connected teens. Social media is a key selling point for both of these phones as they have Facebook support and a dedicated button for social networking support. Also the QWERTY keyboard in the case of the ChaCha makes typing quick and simple."
