Councillor Mike Bawden and Brian Matlock joined Taylor Wimpey directors to raise their hard hats in salute of building work commencing at the housebuilder’s new 1887 development, in the grounds of the former Victoria Hospital in Swindon.

Making a significant step forward with the establishment of an access road to the site and foundations for the showhome being laid, Taylor Wimpey anticipates the showhome will open in June and first occupations will be in July / August of this year.

Named after the year the former hospital opened and Queen Victoria’s jubilee, 1887 brings a new, exciting mix of 27 two and three bedroom properties that have been designed specifically for the development and never seen before.

Chris Ashmore, regional sales and marketing director of Taylor Wimpey Oxfordshire, said: “1887 is a truly exciting development for Swindon. It has an individual character and will consist of a range of unique properties which have been designed to sympathise with the heritage of the site. We’ve made fantastic progress with the development so far and hope to continue the momentum to stay on track to open the showhome in June.”

Councilor Mike Bawden commented: “Significant thought and planning has gone in to this development to ensure the heritage of the Victoria Hospital is retained. 1887 will complement the existing housing in Goddard Avenue and The Mall and I’m looking forward to seeing it completed and I’m sure it will be well received by the local community too.”

Once complete, properties will include two bedroom flats over garages, two bedroom bungalows and three bedroom houses. Prospective purchasers should register their interest at: Taylorwimpey.co.uk

Situated between Taylor Wimpey’s existing developments Goddard Mews and Royal Mead, 1887 is ideally located for a cosmopolitan lifestyle with a choice of wine bars, restaurants and street cafes just a short walk away. Good local schools are close by and private schooling can be found in nearby Marlborough. Swindon is ideally located for commuting into London and other UK towns either by rail or road.
