'Spring' into action for TyreSafe’s Bike Tyre Safety Month

Tyre retailers and bike dealerships are being urged to take part in April’s Bike Tyre Safety Month and help keep riders safe and legal on the roads this spring.
It’s a particularly important time to raise the awareness of bike tyre safety because many motorcyclists will be embarking on their first ride of the year, so for those wanting to get involved there’s a range of free promotional materials available to download at tyresafe.org/bikesafety The website also gives further details and advice about motorcycle tyre safety.
Campaign posters can be used to promote free tyre safety checks and a safety leaflet is aimed at informing and educating riders about the importance of ongoing tyre maintenance.
“Tyres are one of the most important parts of a bike when it comes to ensuring rider safety as they are the only point of contact with the road. If tyres have been stored poorly over the winter break then they could have suffered rubber deterioration and loss of pressure, which may make them unsafe or illegal, so it is vital they are given a thorough inspection before heading out,” says Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe.
The condition of tyres should be checked to make sure there are no cuts, cracks or bulges, and riders must ensure there is adequate tread depth to meet legal requirements. Motorcyclists should also ensure tyres are inflated to the correct pressures.
“We need the help of as many tyre retailers and dealerships as possible to remind and educate riders about the importance of looking after their tyres. With a range of free campaign materials available, there really is no excuse not to get involved. Retailers and dealerships can simply call 01787 226995, or visit the TyreSafe website, to get the free point of sale materials,” adds Jackson.
