Forget eggs - try truffle hunting this Easter

Bored with the annual traditional Easter Egg Hunt? How about a grown-up alternative - Kalahari Truffle hunting in South Africa instead?

Based at the luxury Tswalu Kalahari lodge, guests can search for, dig up, cook and taste the sought-after truffle, of which a bumper season is expected, following a period of excellent rainfall.

Bridge & Wickers (bridgeandwickers.co.uk) will be offering a special Kalahari Safari package throughout April and May, a perfect way to make use of the extended Easter holidays.

During this unique truffle safari, guests have the use of a private vehicle, personal guide and tracker as they go in search for the elusive desert gold that is the Kalahari Truffle, known locally as Inabas. Though finding truffles is not guaranteed, the truffle hunt is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

The award-winning Tswalu Kalahari is set in South Africa's largest private game reserve, a vast expanse of malaria-free wilderness covering 100,000 hectares, yet it caters for just 30 guests in two exclusive lodges. Here, guests may also enjoy game drives, bush walks and horseback safaris to spot the superlative game - expect to see the desert black rhino, black-maned Kalahari lion, meerkats, cheetah and rare antelope. The less adventurous may prefer to relax in the spa and enjoy sundowners in the dunes. Families are welcome, too, with a special children's programme including bush walks, picnics and tracking lessons.

Price: the Kalahari Truffle Safari costs from £2,520 per person sharing, including four nights in a luxurious Motse Suite at Tswalu Kalahari fully inclusive of all meals, local drinks, walking and horse-back safaris and exclusive use of a private vehicle and personal tracker, and return internal flights from the Oppenheimers private hanger in Johannesburg to Tswalu Desert Reserve with Bridge & Wickers (bridgeandwickers.co.uk). Children under 12 stay free at Tswalu. International flights extra.
