No place like home for buyers at Hinkler Place

For Jane Meacher, moving to Barratt’s latest Southampton development Hinkler Place was like returning home – only better, especially with the housebuilder to help get her on the property ladder.
Jane (31) lived in the exact location of the regeneration site, in the Thornhill area of the city, for nearly eight years before moving out in 2002.
“I’d been living right here for years and then moved out and rented a property just around the corner,” said Jane. “But I could see the development start to take shape and couldn’t resist taking a closer look.”
Jane and fiancé, Callum Reed (25) visited Hinkler Place during its early stages and fell in love with a two bedroom apartment at the site after seeing the plans and show apartment.
“It was fantastic to have something brand new,” said Jane. “We wanted to move in to one of these apartments straight away but, as first time buyers, we needed to put the finances in place first so we decided to take advantage of one of Barratt’s shared equity schemes.
“Moving back has been an incredibly happy time for us,” said Jane. “We love the area and everyone here has been so helpful. From the sales team to the site manager, the service has been fantastic.”
Homes at Hinkler place start from just £96,995 for a one bedroom apartment and £129,995 for a two bedroom apartment.
“Under our Head Start shared equity scheme, a one bedroom apartment at Hinkler Place could be bought with a deposit of just £4,900,” said Barratt senior sales manager, Zak Long. “This is a wonderful development for young professionals looking to enter the property market for the first time. It is close to a wide range of shops and other amenities.
“I expect the high demand for homes here to continue to rise over the coming weeks and months. Many congratulations to Jane and Callum, I wish them a very happy future here at Hinkler Place.”
Hinkler Place is part of a £15m regeneration to the Thornhill area of Southampton. It consists of 106 new homes – all meeting the Code 4 sustainability requirements. These requirements help both the environment and the home buyer with energy bills. The regeneration will also include five new retail units and a community centre.
Barratt has worked closely with the council and the residents of Hinkler to provide an exciting area to live and work in with fantastic help and financial support from Homes and Community Agency (HCA), Partnership Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) and Thornhill Plus You.
