Cambridgeshire property-seekers Zahra and Kashif Abbas chose Taylor Wimpey’s Churchill Gardens development of houses for sale in Cambourne – and they’re delighted with their brand new home.

First-time buyers Zahra and Kashif Abbas are loving life as homeowners at Taylor Wimpey’s Churchill Gardens development of property for sale in Cambourne, near Cambridge.

They chose a brand new three-bedroom ‘Harvington’ house for the extra space its three-storey layout gives them, and for the excellent location the community of new homes in Cambourne enjoys.

“We chose Churchill Gardens because it’s handy for us both for commuting to work,” explains Zahra, reflecting on their decision to purchase at the development of houses in Cambourne. “And because the homes Taylor Wimpey is building are high quality, while being in a price bracket that first-time buyers such as ourselves can afford.”

Zahra, a pharmacist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, and Kashif, a secondary school teacher who works in Norfolk, were living in Cherry Hinton in south-east Cambridge before they moved to their new Cambourne property – but thanks to the development’s quick links via to the M11 and A10, the couple haven’t added to their journey times.

“Quite a few people I know who work at Addenbrooke’s also live in new properties in Cambourne, because it’s in such a great location for Cambridge, and it’s also a place that seems to attract a lot of young couples and families,” adds Zahra.

With the couple putting down the deposit on their home in spring last year, Taylor Wimpey assisted with all the
necessary arrangements to help them complete the purchase, easing their transition to becoming fully fledged homeowners.

And by choosing their home off-plan, Zahra and Kashif also had time to choose some gorgeous finishing touches from Taylor Wimpey’s Options range, which includes a choice of flooring, tiling, upgraded kitchen units and worktops, plus lighting, switches, sockets and door furniture.

“Becoming homeowners was quite straightforward,” says Zahra. “Having taken an online tour of the ‘Harvington’ on the Taylor Wimpey website, and going to have a look at a similar showhome at the Concept development in Red Lodge, we always felt confident that we would be pleased with our finished home.

“We’re also glad to have joined the property ladder now, while prices are more affordable, as we’re confident that the long-term future of the market will see property values increase over time.

“All in all, buying a home with Taylor Wimpey has been a good experience, and the staff at Churchill Gardens provided us with excellent customer service. As first-time buyers, it was reassuring that they were always there to help with any questions or queries we had along the way.”

The new collection of homes on sale at Churchill Gardens offers first-time buyers great-value prices starting from just £149,995 for a contemporary two-bedroom ‘Rye’ coach house apartment, just £159,995 for a two-bedroom ‘Douglas’ house, and only £209,995 for a spacious three-bedroom, three-storey ‘Crofton’ townhouse, similar to the home that Zahra and Kashif chose.

Better still, Taylor Wimpey offers a selection of ways to step onto the property ladder with ease. These include Deposit Match, which helps qualifying purchasers double their down payment up to 10% of the price of their new home, Easy Start shared equity, which lets them purchase with a 5% deposit and an 80% mortgage, and Family & Friends Advantage, giving loved ones providing financial help up to 5% annual return on their investment for five years.

Furthermore, the housebuilder’s hugely popular new Take 5 mortgage offer enables buyers to secure a 95% mortgage from Saffron Building Society, which has an interest rate of 5.99% fixed for two years.

Purchasers will also benefit from owning a property that doesn’t need any DIY or costly improvements. All new Churchill Gardens homes benefit from a fitted kitchen complete with integrated oven, hob and hood, energy-efficient central heating, a 10-year warranty from the National House-Building Council and a two-year Taylor Wimpey guarantee. Homes also benefit from an allocated parking space or a garage, while each house at the development has a private rear garden.

Cambourne, nine miles west of Cambridge, is a new community which will offer a range of local amenities within walking distance of Churchill Gardens, including primary schools and a nursery, a library, a multi-purpose sports centre, playing fields and play areas, a multi-denominational church, a hotel and a medical centre.

The community is also home to a selection of high street shops, a supermarket with petrol station, a choice of restaurants, a pharmacy, a dry-cleaners and a convenience store. The Cambridge Belfry Hotel is a short walk from the development and offers a swimming pool and leisure facilities, and a wider range of amenities can be found in nearby Cambridge.

For commuters, the A14 is a short drive from Cambourne, with the M11 and A10 also within easy reach. St Neots railway station is seven miles from the new homes, putting the capital just an hour away by train.
