38.6 million Brits will take to the road this Easter weekend

15th April 2011 Print

Whether the plans are a weekend abroad, spending time with the family or making the most of what your local area has to offer, 77% of Brits will be hitting the roads next weekend, leading to increased traffic and the potential for accidents.

Busy traffic is a common cause of accidents and road rage and so Quidco, the car insurance cashback site, is warning drivers to prepare for the longer journeys by taking several precautions to ensure a comfortable drive. Or, if alternative transport is the solution, Quidco has cashback offers on all of the leading travel merchants.

Before setting off, drivers should
• Pack water, food and other necessary refreshments
• Pack a map of the route or satellite navigation
• Insist on a toilet break for all travelling in the car
• Set the car radio to pick up traffic reports and be prepared to change route if necessary
• Anticipate a longer journey than usual and warn those they are meeting to expect a delay

Hannah Green at Quidco said, “Bad traffic can cause accidents as people grow impatient and angry with other cars. Remember to keep calm. Traffic is frustrating but everyone is in the same situation and getting angry with another driver will not get you to your destination more quickly. Stocking your car with food, drink and a good map will help journeys pass more easily and hopefully, accident-free.”

Quidco’s car insurance comparison tool, Quidco Compare, enables users to find the cheapest policy for their needs and earn cashback when taking out the insurance. While other comparison sites rank in order of the prices supplied by the insurers, Quidco Compare adds cashback to each policy thereby allowing users to make bigger savings. The cashback available through Quidco Compare (quidco.com/car-insurance-comparison/) typically ranges between £24 and £39 per policy.

Alternatively, you could avoid the crowds by taking another mode of transport such as the train, bus or plane. Quidco has offers at the following travel merchants to ensure that your journey doesn’t cost you the earth:
• Lastminute.com – 3.5% cashback for city breaks (flight + hotel plus any other bookings packaged together e.g. hotel + show, meal + show etc)
• National Express – 5% cashback
• Thetrainline.com – 1.5% cashback for tickets over £25
• Eurostar – 5% cashback
• Southwest Trains – 4 travel off peak and only 2 pay plus 2.6% cashback
