New homes in Cambourne offer comfort in retirement

Ron and Ivy Flawith had never given a moment’s thought to leaving their old two-bedroom home in Peterborough until it was suggested they might benefit from living closer to their daughter, in a new property at Cambourne, Cambridgeshire.

But after making the decision to swap their 1940s Peterborough property for a brand new three-bedroom house in Cambourne at Taylor Wimpey’s Greenfields Park development, they are certainly glad to have been persuaded!

That’s because as well as being stone’s throw from their family, Ron (86) and Ivy (87) are enjoying all the advantages that come with living in a Cambourne new-build property – particularly when it comes to staying warm in the winter.

“It is so different to our previous place and we couldn’t be more pleased about it,” says Ron, who worked as a bus driver until retirement and then as a taxi driver until the ripe old age of 80.

“There are no maintenance issues or repairs to worry about and because it’s so much more energy efficient than the old house.

“We used to spend about £145 a month on our heating bills but now it’s been estimated that we’ll be paying well under half that amount.

“In our old place we couldn’t have the heating on all night during the winter so we used to feel like putting coats and fur-lined hats on when we got out of bed! Now we can have the heating on low throughout the night so it’s lovely and warm in the morning, which is fantastic.”

All Taylor Wimpey’s Cambourne homes for sale benefit from high levels of insulation and ultra-effective double glazing to keep warm air in and cold air out in winter. In fact, a typical Taylor Wimpey property built today requires one fifth of the energy needed to heat the same type of home built in the 1930s.

Ron and Ivy are also delighted with the location of their new home in Cambourne – not least because it enables their daughter, Lesley, to pop round to see them every day.

Ron jokes: “Lesley seems to spend more time here than she does in her own home these days!

“We’re settling in nicely and we’re very happy here because it’s got everything that we want. We have a lovely outlook and the development is nicely laid out – the houses don’t seem to be on top of one another like you sometimes find.

“Taylor Wimpey have been fantastic and we received excellent service from the Sales Executive. She was brilliant – there’s no other word to describe her!”

Greenfields Park is one of two Taylor Wimpey developments currently offering homes for sale in Cambourne, the popular community of new properties close to Cambridge.
