UK high performance DC motor company LMC has won a contract to supply 1,000 of its British-made motors to be used in an innovative new Swiss electric scooter, the vRone.

The vRone is manufactured by Swiss company vonRoll infratec, with technical expertise from fellow Swiss Company Quantya AG. It is a lightweight, highly efficient vehicle, which boasts a top speed of 100km per hour and will travel for 70km before recharging is needed.

LMC produced a bespoke adaption of its low voltage, high performance DC motor for use in the vRone scooter, designed and handmade by skilled technicians in Devon. The CE marked, axial gap permanent magnet motor is lightweight but highly powerful, with over 90% efficiency. It has an IP20 rating, a long brush life and features a simple electronic control. LMC previously worked with Quantya AG on the production of a snow scooter and dirt bikes.

"We always look forward to the challenge of adapting our motor to meet new clients' specifications, and the vRone project has been especially interesting," said Trevor Lees, managing director of LMC. "Previously, electric scooters have lacked power and longevity and these are two factors that the vRone has been designed to overcome. In conjunction with vonRoll infratec and Quantya AG we believe we've created a unique, highly powerful electric scooter with a top speed and maximum range that represent a first for the industry." As well as motor vehicles such as the vRone, LMC's motor has been adapted for a wide variety of other uses including cleaning equipment, pumps, air conditioning and marine technologies. Previous clients have included the MOD, Jarvis Webb (USA), The Creature Technology Company, which has created creatures for programmes such as BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs, and Disney World.
