Specialist operator Fleewinter has teamed up with Sri Lanka’s newest activities company, Malubanna, to create action-packed holiday packages for those who prefer to keep moving rather than simply slump by the pool or on the beach (nice though that is).

Activities include:

• A two hour river safari with lagoon fishing, with a chance to spot Monitor Lizards, Crocodiles, Monkey’s and Birds of Prey

• An early morning excursion to Beruwela Fish Harbour to watch the fishermen haul in and sell their catch of shark, tuna, rays and jack fish

• A guided bicycle tour of the local area, stopping at the village temple and Lunuganga House and Gardens for a tour and afternoon tea

• Releasing baby turtles in to the sea at the local turtle hatchery, followed by a candle lit dinner in a traditional fisherman’s hut on the beach with drinks.

Accommodation for the breaks are at the newly opened Villa Apsara on the west coast of Sri Lanka in a small village called Seeni Watta, near Bentota (2.5 hours from Colombo Airport).

The three-bedroomed property (all en-suite) has a private swimming pool and manicured gardens and has views over the River Bentota.

The house also has a team of four staff including an in house chef who will talk about meal options (meals charged at a supplement) and even take guests to the market to shop for ingredients.

A two-week holiday, including the four activities detailed costs from £1180 per person based on four people sharing the property. Price includes flights, transfers, 14 nights’ accommodation (room only) and staff.
