Continentals's HD HYBRID Tyre

Continental Tyres has added another new product to its commercial vehicle tyre range in the UK and Ireland that has the potential to transform the goods transport sector. Called HD HYBRID, the new dual-purpose drive axle tyre is designed for vehicles that do a combination of regional and long distance work. It delivers in a broad range of applications without any compromise in rolling resistance, energy efficiency, grip, safety and noise.

Jill Rodgers, Marketing Manager Commercial Products at Continental UK, said, “The HD Hybrid offers fleet operators, who don’t operate exclusively on long-distance or regional routes, the best of both worlds. At the core of every Continental product is low rolling resistance, which plays a vital role when it comes to fuel consumption. The HD HYBRID continues this benefit and encompasses all the major qualities that operators look for in a tyre namely: mileage, low rolling resistance, retreadability and reductions in fuel consumption.

“Continental has recognised that many road transport operators require the flexibility to run their vehicles between towns or either on longer runs between larger cities. For this reason, Continental has brought HD HYBRID to meet the changing demands of the UK and Ireland’s fleet transport operators”.

The versatility of the HD HYBRID tyres is made possible by the innovative tread design featuring a combined rib and block tread. The longitudinal groove design is optimised for low rolling resistance, which ultimately helps improve fuel economy, while the deep tread depth guarantees extended mileage in more intensive regional conditions.

The Continental HD HYBRID delivers excellent traction in all weather conditions thanks to a balance between lateral grooves and sipes. The tyre construction, featuring the latest advanced second-generation casings from Continental, ensures the HD HYBRID maintains tread stiffness for optimal rolling resistance on motorways while delivering maximum grip and control on shorter regional work.

The twin groove and sipe system engineered in the HD HYBRID tyre, guarantees the same proportion of sipes and grooves over the entire life of the tyre. When the tyre reaches the halfway point in its life, the innovative 3D sipe technology turns the sipes into grooves that extend to the bottom of the tread. In addition, a tread structure that was shaped as a groove when the tyre was new, now becomes a zig-zag sipe.

The tyre therefore changes its character over the course of its life without affecting the advantages of the mixed tread design. Furthermore, the new HD HYBRID also features Continental’s patented AirKeep® technology that minimises gradual loss of inflation pressure and ensures the tyre stays at the correct pressure for up to 50% longer than other tyres.

The new HD HYBRID will be on display at the Continental Automotive stand (Hall 5 stand G52) at the 2011 Commercial Vehicle Show.

The HD HYBRID drive axle tyre is available in the following sizes: 295/60R22.5, 315/60R22.5, 315/70R22.5, 295/80R22.5 and 315/80R22.5
