With a picturesque village setting that lends itself to an idyllic family life, the Boswell family are making the most of their new found space at The Glades, in Downton.

They’re also saving significant amounts of money on energy bills thanks to the benefits of a brand new home.

Steve and Tracy Boswell, and their sons Jack, 10, and Harry, eight, moved from a smaller, four-bedroom home in Alderholt, to an executive five-bedroom detached family home at Redrow’s new development.

Laid out over three floors, the ‘Cedar’ style home has afforded the family an additional layer of living space, giving them room to spread out and plenty of places to relax together as a family.

They are also reaping the benefits of buying brand new, including improved energy efficiency and solar heated hot water, which has seen a reduction in their gas and electricity consumption since moving in.

Training manager Steve, 37, and teacher Tracy, 36, decided on Downton for its ‘chocolate box’ village environment, and The Glades development specifically for its country lane setting and high specification homes.

“Our new home suits our lifestyle,” Steve said. “There’s so much space and we love the layout, which includes a large open-plan kitchen, dining and family room. The kids have a whole floor to themselves as the top floor has two double bedrooms and a bathroom, which will be great when they are teenagers.

“We looked at a number of new build developments but Redrow just seemed to be a step above everything else we saw in terms of specification. The customer service offered was outstanding from the first day we spoke to the sales consultant, right through to the aftercare we have received from everyone on site.”

The homes at The Glades also benefit from a number of eco-features, which help them achieve level three of the Code for Sustainable Homes; including solar panels, low-energy light fittings and water butts.

Steve added: “We haven’t paid for our hot water since we moved in as the solar panels have covered that, and we’ve seen a marked reduction in how much gas and electricity we’ve used. Despite the cold winter months, the house was very warm and well insulated.”

Homes at The Glades have been selling well in recent months and there are now just 12 homes remaining.

The development is well placed for an easy drive to Salisbury, in around seven minutes, as well as the towns and cities of Southampton, Bournemouth and Poole; yet offers close proximity to the peace, tranquillity and natural beauty of the New Forest National Park.

And for those who regularly travel to the capital, train journey times of under an hour and a half from Salisbury to London are an added attraction.

Luxury properties are currently priced from £395,995 for a four-bedroom home.
