Bike mad mum becomes a Superbike mechanic for the day

12th May 2011 Print

A bike-mad mum from Halifax has been given the opportunity to be a British Superbike mechanic with the Motorpoint Yamaha team at Croft Circuit this weekend.

Gail Jeffrey, an office manager at the charity Home-Start, has been addicted to bikes for 16 years and is an avid follower of the Motorpoint Yamaha team. This year alone she has clocked up many miles by travelling all the way down to Brands Hatch in Kent with her daughter for the opening race of the season.

Before this chance Gail was only able to tinker around with her own beloved bike, fitting modifications in her garage at home. Now she will spend the day with a world-class team of mechanics in the pits. She will help care for the bikes and feel the rush of the race atmosphere first hand with the Motorpoint Yamaha team as they fight for the podium places.

Gail entered the competition through the internet after Motorpoint launched it from their British Superbike team website – motorpointbsbteam.com – she was then chosen from over 250 applicants to be the pit helper for the day.

Says Gail: “I’ve always loved motorbikes. It really is a dream come true for me. At work I’m always telling my friends about the new bike part I’ve just got in. I’ve even got pictures of bikes up around my desk. I can’t wait to feel what it’s like behind the scenes at a race.”
