Wind down in the heart of Champagne

16th May 2011 Print

Flee the May Bank Holiday throngs and head to the heart of Champagne in France for an authentic taste of fizz.

Specialist wine tour operator Grape Escapes still has spaces on its two night Prestige Champagne Tour available from 27-29 May or 28-30 May with prices starting at £339 per person.

Based in the historic city of Reims, the tour will include visits to a variety of Champagne Houses, villages and vineyards in a private luxury coach with a local, English speaking guide.

The tour offers an intimate insight into the world of Champagne by visiting two small, family-run producers. Guests will be able to see and learn about the Champagne making process from vine to bottle as well as tasting a range of products including some vintage varieties. There is also a visit to one of the more prestigious Champagne Houses such as Moët & Chandon, Ruinart or Pommery where guests can explore the extensive cellars. For a taste of Champagne’s food, the tour stops off for a gourmet four course lunch at a top local restaurant.

For added indulgence, it is possible to request an upgrade to see more of the region such as a tour of the Dom Perignon Champagne House, a half day vineyard experience visiting the guides family vineyard or a tasting dinner in Reims with a different variety of Champagne for each course. Prices are available on request.

The price of £339 per person includes return Dover to Calais ferry crossings with P&O Ferries for a car and two passengers, two nights bed and breakfast in Reims, all tour visits, one gourmet meal and the guide. Accommodation ranges from a two star hotel in central Reims to the finest luxury Château in the region.
