Local superbike fan lives his dream

Andover born-and-bred Darren Davis has grown up at Thruxton racecourse and is now going to be in the thick of the action with Motorpoint Yamaha in the British Superbike Championship as a pit helper for the day.
Darren, 22, has spent time at Thruxton circuit since the tender age of four when his Grandparents worked for St. John’s Ambulance there. He was always helping around the course with his family and then went on to take up biking himself. Despite spending a large part of his childhood at the famous race track he has never been part of a professional race team before. This bank holiday weekend he will become part of the gifted Motorpoint Yamaha team.
The 22 year-old works in the factory for stannah lifts and saves up for racing at track days. Superbikes and following his biking idols are still massive parts of his life. Darren describes this chance to be in the pits with Motorpoint as a ‘dream come true.’
He heard about the competition to become a pit helper for the day through the car supermarket giant’s Facebook page – facebook.com/motorpoint. There have been over 250 applicants for the position and Darren was lucky enough to be chosen for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He will now spend the day with the team in the pits experiencing the full-metal and adrenaline of race day as close to the action as possible without sitting on the bike.
Says Darren: “I’ve grown up around Thruxton and I can honestly say that I am a bit of a bike geek, I love the sport. I’m constantly reading about motorbikes and bike sports. I love going to track days and trying to keep up with the competitive riders there. It gives me such a buzz and I can’t wait to be part of that with the Motorpoint Yamaha team.”
