New Russia flights could boost yacht charter in Mallorca
To coincide with the beginning of the peak tourist season, June saw the resumption of direct twice-weekly flights between Moscow and Spain’s Palma de Mallorca. With a flying time of around four hours, S7 Airlines currently offers the only scheduled direct service from Palma to Russia and is set to be popular amongst the many Russians who enjoy holidaying and chartering yachts on this Balearic Island.
Nick Whale, Director of Mallorca-based Nick Whale Marine, comments, “The number of enquiries from Russia has increased year-on-year and we have already completed a yacht charter with Russian clients this season. In comparison with other nationalities, we have found that Russians tend to be quite impulsive, like to book at the last minute and go for mid- to top-end motoryachts – certainly no less than 50ft unless they’re after a quick blast on our 50-knot-plus RIB. In our experience Russians see yacht charter as a family affair and involve the children with the same-sex ‘stag style’ events favoured by some western Europeans a rarity.
