Solar eclipse cruise in tropical North Queensland

Book now with Bridge & Wickers for the experience of a lifetime: a 4-night Solar Eclipse cruise to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef where, on 14th November 2012, passengers will have the best possible view of one of the most monumental cosmic events, a total solar eclipse.

On this day the eyes of amateur astronomers and the scientific community the world over will focus on Northern Australia’s Tropical North Queensland lying, as it does, on the ‘centreline’ of the prime eclipse-viewing area.

As part of a tailor-made holiday, Bridge & Wickers is offering an unforgettable 4-night cruise aboard one of Coral Princess Cruises’ small-ships that will anchor in prime viewing position for the eclipse.  Passengers will gather on deck to watch the eclipse, as the moon passes in front of the sun, blocking it completely and forming a shadow on earth lasting two minutes. Once the eclipse has moved out into the Pacific Ocean, the ship carrying just 50 guests will explore the very best of the coral gardens including the spectacular Ribbon Reef No. 3 and Rachel Carson Reef, and some secluded tropical islands.  Mooring up beside beautiful Lizard Island, passengers can discover the Reef with a dive instructor or take it easy on a glass bottom boat.

Sample price: Departing the UK on 10th November 2012 - a 10-night holiday with Bridge & Wickers (bridgeandwickers.co.uk) costs from £3,095pp based on two sharing, including international flights, transfers, 7 nights’ on a B&B basis at The Peninsula in Port Douglas and 4 nights on the Solar Eclipse cruise including full board, teas and coffees, use of snorkeling equipment and guided glass bottom boat, snorkeling excursions, island and rainforest visits, presentations by marine biologists, an introductory SCUBA experience for first time divers, and port charges.
