Packing: Don't forget the teabags and toilet paper

19th July 2011 Print

New research released this week by lowcostholidays.com, one of the top 10 UK travel websites, reveals that the most important home comforts British holiday makers pack when heading abroad are tea bags and toilet paper.

Surprisingly 25% of the 1,061 respondents also pack an alarm clock which may be to give them a head start with the poolside beach towel ritual in the mornings!

When packing for their holiday, other home comforts finding their way into suitcases include bacon, Marmite and sadly for some their work phone.  Packing techniques vary with 40% of respondents claiming to be ‘pretty organised’,  17% just chuck everything in at the last minute and just over 6% have the time to be meticulous packers, wrapping their clothes, layer by layer in tissue paper.

Pre-holiday preparations for those polled include 62% of respondents unsurprisingly shopping for new items for the holiday and 13% using a sunbed or fake tan to avoid looking too pale.

As far as holiday wear is concerned, over a quarter of those questioned have clothes that they will only wear when away as they feel they can get away with being less fashion conscious when on holiday and just over 4% still choose to hit the beach in the classic sock and sandal combination.

Commenting on the survey findings, Matt Hall, Product Director of lowcostholidays.com said, “With over 1 million British holiday makers heading abroad with lowcostholidays.com this summer, it’s clear that many of them will be packing their most important comforts so that they still feel ‘at home’ whilst abroad.”
