The team at Goatacre Cricket Club have been bowled over by a donation from Malmesbury-based Persimmon Homes Wessex.

To mark its commitment to and sponsorship of the UK’s prestigious village cricket competition, now known at The Persimmon Village Cup 2011, Persimmon has donated £250 to Goatacre Cricket Club, near Calne. The Club provides coaching and kit to students at Hilmarton Primary School and the funds will contribute towards costs associated with after school coaching sessions that the Club will deliver during 2012.

Sandie Jackson from Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “We are committed to nurturing young, up-and-coming talent; be that on the cricket pitch or with young school leavers who join our trainee schemes. We are also committed to supporting the communities in which we build and the local schools and organisations that help encourage youngsters to further their talents to succeed. We are delighted to be able to support Goatacre Cricket Club and in turn, Hilmarton Primary School and hope our donation will further bolster their enthusiasm and love of cricket.”

The Village Cup – which is now known as The Persimmon Village Cup 2011 - is the principal cup competition for village cricket clubs in the UK. It launched in 1972, the same year Persimmon formed as a company, to promote village cricket and gives amateur players in 286 teams the chance to compete at a national event at Lord’s.

Goatacre were past winners, playing at Lords in 1988 and 1990.
