Buyers end long hunt for ideal property in St Neots

Home-hunters Julia Gibson and Mike Izatt have ended three years of searching for their dream home at Taylor Wimpey’s Papermill Lock development of new homes for sale in St Neots, Cambridgeshire.
Julia Gibson and Mike Izatt’s three-year quest for a dream home has ended in success – thanks to a chance road diversion that led them to Taylor Wimpey’s Papermill Lock development of houses for sale in St Neots.
The couple stumbled upon this popular collection of new build homes in St Neots while following a detour back to their former home Newport, Essex, after visiting friends in Peterborough.
An impromptu tour of the stunning ‘Mayflower’ showhome followed and within a week the couple had returned to Papermill Lock to reserve their ideal property for sale in St Neots for themselves!
“We had looked at a number of houses in the Stansted and Dunmow area, which were handily placed for my commute to Harlow,” says Julia. “But, everything I liked was just too expensive and I didn’t want to take on a gigantic mortgage.
“When we saw the signs for Taylor Wimpey’s new homes in St Neots at Papermill Lock, we thought we would just have a look, although we knew nothing about the area and weren’t even sure about the commute time to Harlow.
“But, from that first visit, we were completely sold on the development – and the ‘Mayflower’.
“It’s a stunning house, with the biggest square footage of any of the homes we had been looking at. The ceilings are much higher than other new-builds we had seen and the whole place is so light, with huge windows. The morning sun beams into the bedroom and it feels as though I am waking up on holiday every day.
“Friends who have visited have been amazed by the high specification finish of our home and I’ve been really proud to have people stay over, as we have two bedrooms on the top floor, each with en-suite facilities.”
Julia has also been impressed with the energy efficiency of the new-build. “I have gone from a two-bedroom flat to a four-bedroom, three-storey townhouse and believe it or not, my bills are lower than they were in my old place!”
While the property is perfect for Julia (53) and Mike (52), they’ve also been impressed with everything Papermill Lock’s location has to offer.
Julia says: “I love the fact we are near the river and some stunning countryside. We can walk to the Paxton Pits nature reserve, with its lakes, cycle tracks and wonderful wildlife. In fact, at the start and the end of the day we have a flock of Canada geese fly over our house and in the morning I wake to the sound of a cuckoo.
“We’ve enjoyed exploring the little villages in the area and have found some lovely country pubs.”
Julia is also full of praise for the high levels of customer service the Taylor Wimpey staff at Papermill Lock demonstrated before, during and after their move.
“I am full of admiration for the Site Manager, Andy Pierce and the Sales Executives, Kay and Carole,” says Julia. “They want everything to be perfect and no matter how small or seemingly insignificant a question I asked, Andy or the sales girls would always find out the answer for me and I never felt as though I was bothering them. They’ve been a pleasure to deal with.”
A selection of three-storey townhouses is currently available at Papermill Lock, with prices starting from £189,995 for a three-bedroom design and only £192,995 for a four-bedroom home.
Built on the site of the Samuel Jones Paper Mill, the new homes enjoy a peaceful rural setting next to the River Great Ouse, on the outskirts of St Neots – a thriving town with a bustling weekly market, regular farmers’ markets and a wealth of open space, parkland and riverside walks.
St Neots is also a popular spot for commuters, with regular services from the town’s railway station putting London’s King’s Cross less than 60 minutes away and the A1 for London and Peterborough, the A428 for Cambridge and the A14 for the Midlands and East Anglia all within easy reach.
The town also offers plenty of leisure opportunities to keep residents of all ages occupied, including the 72-acre Riverside Park, which features a charming waterside frontage, a pitch-and-putt golf course and children’s play areas, a boating lake and a skateboarding complex.
The Priory Centre hosts a rich and varied programme of entertainment, while St Neots leisure centre offers tennis, badminton and squash courts, a swimming pool and sauna, a fitness studio and outdoor sports pitches.
