The Davies’ are right at home in Heysham, Lancashire
Just two months after moving in, Simon and Libby Davies already feel right at home in their new Miller Homes property at Millers Green in Heysham. Within strolling distance of the seafront and walking distance of the pretty historic village, the development is a relaxing place to live.
Simon says: “I was born and brought up in Heysham and used to play around the area where our new home is situated. My cousin lives two doors away and he recommended Millers Green and Miller Homes to us. To be honest, I thought we wouldn’t be able to afford a Miller Homes property, as I know the quality is a lot better than other house builders so thought they’d be expensive.”
Simon and Libby were pleasantly surprised to discover that as first time buyers they qualified for the Governmenrt backed HomeBuy Direct scheme.

With HomeBuy Direct they avoided the need for a large deposit and are now firmly on the property ladder.
Buyers that qualify for HomeBuy Direct at Millers Green could own 100% of a new home but pay from only 70 per cent of the price now. The balance of the price is provided in the form of an equity loan from the Government and Miller Homes jointly. This equity loan is interest free for the first five years and repayable over 25 years or when the property is sold. Simon says: “There is no way we could have raised the £35,000 we would have needed for a deposit but we were able to buy using HomeBuy Direct. I think it’s a great scheme. We were renting before, which is just dead money, so it’s great owning our own place. Our mortgage is less than we were paying in rent so our new home is definitely affordable for us. Libby has never had the opportunity to own her own home before and is loving having the freedom of being able to do what we want to it, rather than having to check with a landlord.”
Simon and Libby are finding the ‘Hardy’ suits their life perfectly. Simon says: “We both enjoy cooking and love entertaining friends. Having a large dining family room next to the kitchen is ideal. My teenage daughter often spends time in the first floor lounge playing her music while we relax downstairs in the family room. Being spread over three floors offers great space and I think it was really good value for money for the room we have.”
Libby, according to Simon, is a fanatical gardener. He comments: “We’ve used the garden a lot since we moved in. It gets the sun all day so we have made the most of being outdoors in the recent good weather.”
The location of Millers Green is also suiting the Davies’. Simon says: “I work from home but travel throughout the North West and up to south Scotland, as part of my job, so easy access to the motorway makes my life easier. Libby commutes to Kikby Lonsdale every day and her journey is easy from here.”
Libby and Simon have nothing but praise for the Miller Homes team. Simon says: “I have been buying houses since I was eighteen and this was the easiest house purchase ever. The Miller Homes staff were fantastic and the solicitor they recommended was brilliant; I can’t praise her enough.”
