Residents at the Maythorns get social networking

Residents living at a new homes development in Biggleswade are embracing the social networking revolution after turning to Facebook to help to get to know their new neighbours.
Households at David Wilson South Midlands’ The Maythorns development on Potton Road are using the popular social networking site to share useful information and to organise social events.
The private group is exclusive to those living at the new homes development and was set up by residents Toby Eager and Sara Hindry in a bid to get to their new neighbours.
Sara comments “After the success of our Royal Wedding Street Party, Toby and I decided to set up the Facebook group as a way of getting to know our new neighbours even further.
“So far, the group has proven really successful and we’re currently up to 65 members. Through the group I organised a trip for 15 of us to Henlow dog races and we’ve recently set up a girls only film club. The men however didn’t want to be outdone and organised a night in to watch David Haye’s boxing match. Karaoke night was also a huge success!
“Another resident is an Avon Lady and she is using the group to organise parties whilst another is a beautician and she posts exclusive deals for members which has gone down very well indeed.
“A running and cycling club has also been set up and people are also using the group to borrow various household items such as lawnmowers or even to share useful contact details for plumbers or taxi firms. Restaurant and take away reviews are also a regular feature!
“All in all Facebook has been a great place for the new residents of The Maythorns to share funny stories and useful information, not to mention social gatherings! And we’re already planning our next few community events which will hopefully be a bonfire night BBQ and a New Year’s Eve party.”
Jackie Day, Sales Director at David Wilson, comments “It’s fantastic to see that the residents at The Maythorns are going to such great lengths to help nurture the thriving new community there and I must commend both Sara and Toby on their efforts to date.
“Social networking is becoming an increasingly important part of our lives with 26 million people in the UK using Facebook alone so it’s great to see residents embracing modern technology to get to know their neighbours.
“As a housebuilder, we strive to develop friendly communities where people aspire to live and so we whole heartedly support this new group which can only serve to enhance the new community at The Maythorns.”
The Maythorns on Potton Road currently offers a range of two- to five- bedroom homes that offer housing solutions for everyone from first time buyers to expanding families and even downsizers.
Prices start from £139,995 for a two- bedroom apartment.
