Lottery winners John and Nancy Sawyer are settling into their dream home at Taylor Wimpey's The Romans at Augusta Park development in Andover

A £500,000 lottery win helped John and Nancy Sawyer to purchase their first ever property at Taylor Wimpey’s The Romans at Augusta Park development of new homes for sale in Andover.

A retired couple who thought they would never be able to afford their own home are enjoying life in their perfect property at a Taylor Wimpey development of new build homes in Andover – thanks to a sensational £500,000 lottery windfall.

Having spent their entire adult life renting flats in different parts of London, John and Nancy Sawyer’s lives were completely transformed when their numbers came up in the National Lottery last August. The lucky pair have now started a new life in their ideal home at Taylor Wimpey’s The Romans at Augusta Park development of houses for sale in Andover.

Reflecting on the events which helped them secure their place at the development of property for sale in Andover, John (66) explains: “It eased such a lot of pressure on us. Up till then we’d rented and never owned our own home. We came to England in 1964 from Ireland and, as musicians, we found it difficult to get a mortgage, so we’ve always lived in flats. As we got older it never looked as if we could buy our own house.

“Now we’ve got a beautiful four-bedroom detached home in Andover and we’ve been able to lend our son, Samuel, who didn’t want to leave London, the money to buy his own flat.”

Following their life-changing win, John and Nancy were keen to escape the city and settle down to enjoy a better quality of life in a more peaceful location – and their search quickly took them to The Romans at Augusta Park.

“We were living in Shepherds Bush and it was just chaotic,” says John. “All we’d hear at night were police sirens, there was fast food packaging all over the pavements, and I didn’t like going on the tube in the rush hour.

“Everything has completely changed now. The Romans at Augusta Park is very clean, it’s very quiet at night and you can see the stars instead of high rise buildings. We’ve got countryside really close. We’re much more content.”

John and Nancy chose a four-bedroom ‘Halstock’ detached house, which they liked because of its attached garage and its attractive frontage.

This impressive home also features a spacious living room and a kitchen/breakfast room, both opening through French doors to the private rear garden, plus a separate dining room and a handy guest cloakroom off the entrance hallway. Upstairs, there are four double bedrooms, one with en-suite, and a main bathroom.

When John and Nancy visited the development there was no show home in this design, so the sales staff at The Romans at Augusta Park arranged for them to view a similar property which was already occupied to help them visualise life in their new home.

“Taylor Wimpey made things very easy for us. Karen and Carole in the sales office, as well as the site manager Adrian, have looked after us well and anything we wanted has been done,” John concludes. “We’re very happy with everything.”

There’s currently a wonderful selection of new homes available at The Romans at Augusta Park, including stylish two-bedroom coach houses, priced from as little as £159,995, spacious three-bedroom homes from only £189,995, and four-bedroom detached houses from just £249,995.

All new homes at The Romans at Augusta Park are completed to a high standard specification, including central heating, double glazing and fitted kitchen with integrated oven, hob and hood.

The development enjoys a prime position to the north of Andover town centre. A new primary school, community centre, sports hall and playing fields are to be constructed alongside the homes, as well as employment areas which may include new local shops and leisure amenities.

Currently, a range of shops, including a supermarket, is within easy reach of the development, a choice of primary schools can be found within half a mile, while a good selection of secondary and further education is located in Andover.

Andover town centre is just over a mile from The Romans at Augusta Park, and home to the Chantry Centre for shopping, a cinema and a theatre, a leisure centre with pool and classes and activities for adults and children, plus a choice of gyms.

Commuters will appreciate that Andover railway station is also just a short distance from the development and provides regular services to Salisbury, Basingstoke and London Waterloo, while the M3 and M4 are each within a 20-mile radius.
