The fortunes of Cycling Team GB have been hotly followed by a group of youngsters who have been developing their own riding skills at Peterborough’s East of England Showground.

Around 40 young riders from all over the region took part in the popular Go-Ride Road & Time Trial coaching sessions, organised by British Cycling, during the recent half term break.

Coaches and experts – including British Cycling national award winning young volunteer Ollie Fensom from Spalding Cycling Club – gave the youngsters the chance to improve their general bike skills as well as learning various techniques to help make cycling even more fun while staying safe through a series of team and individual challenges.

Exec Peterborough and East of England Showground account manager Felicity Adams said: “We were thrilled that British Cycling returned to us to host this fabulous event – particularly in this Olympic year when many people are looking to be involved in and inspired by sporting events and the current good fortunes of cycling team GB.”

And the event was such a success, that the team will be returning to the Peterborough venue during the Easter holidays on April 2 and 12.

British Cycling’s Eastern Regional Go-Ride Coach Alison Lilley said: “The Go-Ride Holiday Coaching sessions are a brilliant way to get young people involved in the world of cycling and to introduce them to one of the fastest growing sports in the UK.

“The East of England Showground provides a unique opportunity for young cyclists and our coaching team to work in a traffic-free road environment and enables the riders to practice in controlled surroundings making it safe and ultimately fun to learn. We were again delighted with the turn out and are already looking forward to returning at Easter.”
