Film4 is celebrating after Meryl Streep won Best Actress at last night's Oscars ceremony for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. The Iron Lady also won the Makeup Oscar at the glitzy 84th Academy Awards, for J. Roy Helland and Mark Coulier, making it a double-win for the Film4-backed film.

Tessa Ross, Head of Film and Drama at Channel 4, says: "Our warmest congratulations go to the wonderful Meryl Streep and the film's make-up team, Mark Coulier and J.Roy Helland on their hugely deserved Oscar wins for The Iron Lady last night. Meryl's performance is nothing short of magnificent, and her transformation into Margaret Thatcher quite uncanny, so we are delighted that such talent has been recognised with the most prestigious of prizes. Many congratulations from all of us here at Film4!"

Meanwhile Saving Face, a film about a British-Pakistani plastic surgeon who cares for the victims of acid attacks in Pakistan, won the Oscar for best documentary short. Commissioned for True Stories by Anna Miralis and majority funded by HBO, a feature-length version of Saving Face will be broadcast in April.
